Easy houseplants for greener interiors

Foto

If you do not have a green thumb, little time or find it difficult to keep your houseplants alive, then an easy plant can be the answer. By easy, we mean plants that do well even if you give them a little less attention. In this blog, I will introduce you to five plants, in no particular order, that are not only easy to look after, but also add extra atmosphere to your interior.

1. Sansevieria
The Sansevieria is a very easy and strong houseplant, which grows slowly and which you will enjoy for many years. The Sansevieria originates from Africa and is also known as the Lady's tongue. You can put the Sansevieria anywhere in your house, it can be placed in both sun and shade. It needs very little water and also has an air-purifying effect.

The Sansevieria comes in many shapes, sizes and colours. Whether you are looking for a small plant for your windowsill or a big eye-catcher for the office, the Sansevieria is your friend.

2. Dracaena
The Dracaena is an easy houseplant with air-purifying properties. The Dracaeana is native to Africa, Central America and Asia. It gets its name from the red resin you can find on the stem of some species. Dracaenas need little water and care. The varieties with dark leaves do very well in the shade and the more colourful varieties with yellow/green leaves prefer a spot with a bit more light, but not in full sun.

Dracaenas come in many varieties, sizes and colours, so there is something for everyone. There are big differences between the species, such as the classic Dracaena Marginata with its long, narrow leaves. If you prefer something colourful, we recommend you take a look at the Lemon Lime with its wide 2-tone coloured leaves. Regardless of which Dracaena you choose, they are all easy to look after and give a boost to your interior.

3. Monstera
The Monstera is a trendy houseplant that has been gaining popularity in the Netherlands in recent years and should certainly not be missing from this overview of easy houseplants. The Monstera can be recognised by its usually somewhat larger leaves with holes, hence its nickname Holes plant. This green houseplant is by nature a climbing plant that originated in the rain forests of South and Central America. The Monstera likes slightly moist soil and prefers to grow in a spot with some (light) shade.

This easy houseplant is sold as a shrub, but can also be supplied with a moss stick. The Monstera comes in several varieties, but the most popular and best-known is the Monstera Deliciosa with its large leaves.

4. Yucca
This houseplant can be found in almost every living room and for good reason. The Yucca, also known as the Palm Lily, is easy to look after, very affordable and very ornamental. The Yucca likes a bright spot and needs very little water. It is native to America and the Caribbean.

There are various species of this houseplant, but the most popular is still the Yucca Elephantipes. This easy houseplant comes in various shapes, both standing and branched.

5. Zamioculcas
Looking for an easy plant that is compact and also fits in the windowsill? Then the Zamioculcas is definitely worth considering. This green houseplant can be recognised by its smooth stems with thick, shiny leaves. This houseplant can be placed almost anywhere, except in full sun. If you give your Zamioculcas a little water now and then, you won't have to worry about it.

The Zamioculcas is an easy houseplant and originates from eastern Africa and will not look out of place in many a living room.

In conclusion...
Every houseplant needs a little bit of love. But for easy houseplants, they are actually quite forgiving, if you skip watering them once, they won't immediately blame you. There is no need to prune these plants and if you have a yellow leaf on your plant, just remove it.
