1.   Areca palm

Origin:   Madagascar

Air-purifying:   Yes

The Areca palm is a low maintenance houseplant and absolutely safe for humans and animals. This green palm also has very strong air-purifying properties.  

2.   Musa (Banana plant)

Origin:   Southeast Asia
Position:   Sunny, half shade
Air-purifying:   Yes

The Musa is instantly recognizable by its large leaves. With a banana plant you bring the tropics into your home. This trendy houseplant is non-toxic and safe for dogs, cats, walking branches and all other pets.

3.   Calathea

Origin:   South America / Amazon
Position:   Half shade, shade
Air-purifying:   Yes

The Calathea comes in many varieties and is known for its beautiful leaves and air-purifying properties. This houseplant is non-toxic and by the way, did you know that it closes its leaves at night? 

4.   Aspidistra 

Origin:   Japan / Taiwan

Air-purifying:   Minimal

The Aspidistra is an easy houseplant and again completely safe for humans and animals. In Japan, they use the leaves of this plant to serve food. In addition, the leaves are also widely used in the arrangement of flower arrangements, as they have a long shelf life.

5.   Polyscias (Aralia)

The Polyscias comes in several species, each with its own color leaves. The most well-known are the Balfouriana, Fabian, Ming and Roble, and some give off a nice fragrance. This pet-friendly houseplant does well in a spot with some shade.

The Pancake plant was very popular in the 1970s, with its round, green leaves. After that it disappeared from the scene, but now this houseplant is again providing the necessary living rooms with atmosphere. The Pancake Plant is nice and compact, affordable and, of course, non-toxic. 

7.   Kentia palm (Howea Forsteriana)

If you are looking for a non-toxic houseplant for a spot with some shade, then the Kentia palm is definitely worth considering. Also known as the Howea Forsteriana, the Kentia requires little care.

8.   Caryota

The Caryota Mitis is a nice full houseplant with lots of green leaves. The leaves are shaped like a fish tail, which is why this plant is also called the Fish Tail Palm. This houseplant is non-toxic and safe for humans and animals. 

9.   Beaucarnea

Origin:   Mexico
Position:   Sunny
Air cleaning:   Minimal

Beaucarnea is a non-toxic houseplant with graceful, green leaves hanging down from the stem. This plant is not only available on stems, but there are also branched versions with great ornamental value, so there is something for everyone.  

10.   Chamaedorea

Origin:   Mexico
Emplacement:   Half shade
Air-purifying:   No

The last plant in this list not to be missed is the Chamaedorea Elegans. This palm has few environmental requirements, is very affordable and has a good appearance, which makes it attractive to the general public. Of course, this palm is also non-toxic, so you don't have to worry about the health of your pets.
